ADO II Aziz Annor of the Ministries Fire Station was in the company of a team of firefighters. They were detailed for a fire disaster that occurred on Sunday, 1st September 2024, at Zongo Lane. Zongo Lane is a suburb of the Central Business District of Accra.

Days into their assignment, the firemen continued to supply water from available sources, including La, where a fire hydrant has been installed opposite La Palm Beach Hotel.

Around 5pm of Tuesday, 3rd September, a section of the emergency response unit was at the area on their usual routine and there was a traffic buildup. In an attempt to control the situation to pave way for fire tenders among other vehicles, the accused commercial driver jumped out of his minibus attacking the firefighter in uniform.

Mr. Annor, who was playing a traffic warden at the time suffered a broken ankle and instantly fell in the middle of the road. He had to be rushed to the military hospital where he had since received care.

On a follow up visit to the head of public relations at the fire service headquarters, he made known that the victim was doing well yet the medical team has referred him for surgical operation while the accused together with his mate is facing the law.

The public relations officer referred to another fire incident at Dansoman also in Accra within the week where some members of the public attacked firemen. Finding fault with such attacks on personnel of the service, DO II Desmond Ackah pleaded with society to rather aid in finding solutions to such fire outbreaks that has always affected national development.

He mentioned few cases in recent times such as Job 600, Kasoa New Market and the very Zongo Lane one that has shoved Aziz Annor into an unwilling condition urging all to do the needful for the prevention of disasters of any kind.
