Victims of the Adum PZ market fire in Kumasi have rejected food donations from Interior Minister and Asawase MP, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, insisting they need assistance to rebuild their businesses, not temporary relief.
The fire, which broke out on March 21, destroyed numerous shops, leaving traders devastated and in need of financial and infrastructural support.

On his visit to the site, Muntaka arrived with a truckload of supplies, including 1,500 bags of rice and 8,000 boxes of cooking oil and soap, in what he described as a gesture of solidarity. However, the affected traders angrily turned down the aid, arguing that food donations do not address their urgent economic hardship.
A video circulating on social media captures the moment traders jeered at the Minister and his team, voicing their frustrations over what they see as misplaced priorities.

The victims demanded immediate government intervention to rebuild the market, stressing that without their shops and businesses, food relief is meaningless.
“We need our market back, not bags of rice. How will food help us restart our businesses?” one trader was heard shouting in the video.
Beyond concerns about losing their livelihoods, the traders also fear eviction from the market site, urging authorities to guarantee their right to return once the area is redeveloped.
