President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a state-of-the-art Oil and Gas Services Terminal at the Takoradi Port, reaffirming his government’s dedication to enhancing Ghana’s port infrastructure and maintaining its competitive edge in international trade and regional integration.
Project Highlights
The new terminal aims to establish a world-class shore-based logistics platform to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production. Key features include:
- A 550-meter-long quay wall with quay furniture.
- A 10-meter-deep draft for offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing.
- A 200,000m² serviced land area for oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops, and storage facilities.
- 1.9km of access roads with storm drainage and utility service ducts.
Economic Impact
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo stated:
“This bold step showcases Ghana’s progress in becoming a leading hub for oil and gas services. The Takoradi Oil and Gas Services Terminal will streamline offshore supply services, enhance heavy engineering and fabrication activities, and provide a comprehensive suite of services for the petroleum exploration industry.”
The terminal, funded by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and constructed by China Harbor Engineering, complements existing port infrastructure, such as the Atlantic Container and Multipurpose Terminal and the new dry bulk terminal, further strengthening Ghana’s economic competitiveness.
Future Plans
President Akufo-Addo also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to establishing Ghana’s third commercial port in Keta Municipality in the Volta Region. He highlighted the progress made in feasibility studies, stakeholder engagements, and environmental impact assessments, emphasizing the significance of this initiative in broadening Ghana’s maritime capabilities.
