His legal counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, clarified that Barker-Vormawor’s recent social media post was not directed at the committee but aimed to highlight broader concerns. The apology was extended during a committee session on January 29, 2025.

The controversy began when Barker-Vormawor alleged that ministerial appointees were asked to pay money to the committee to secure approval.

In a Facebook post dated January 24, 2025, he accused members of the Appointments Committee of soliciting bribes in exchange for approving ministerial nominees. These accusations prompted the committee to demand clarification.

Committee members expressed frustration over recurring allegations of corruption during vetting cycles. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, urged a thorough investigation to uncover the origins of the posts, emphasizing the importance of protecting Parliament’s integrity.

He challenged Barker-Vormawor to substantiate his claims, stating, “Be bold and defend your bribery allegation as the man youโ€™re.”

Another committee member, Patrick Yaw Boamah, labeled Barker-Vormawor’s request for an apology as an “afterthought,” insisting that he should be held accountable for his actions. He emphasized that the activist’s claims were unfounded and that Barker-Vormawor should face consequences for the alleged misconduct.

In response, Nana Ato Dadzie acknowledged that while Barker-Vormawor authored the initial post, it was intended to draw attention to broader issues rather than directly accuse the committee.

He also clarified that a subsequent post, featuring Barker-Vormawor’s image and further accusations, was not authored by his client and may have been manipulated or posted by others. The lawyer expressed regret for any confusion caused.

This incident underscores the tension between activists and governmental bodies, highlighting the need for clear communication and substantiated claims when addressing allegations of corruption.
