King makers and the people people of Awutu Bawjiase within the Awutu Senya West district of the Central region have outdoor Nai Kwaku Osardu Otabil III, Chief of Bawjiase as he appeared riding in palanquin.
This comes after some twenty-five(25) years since they saw any ruler rode in palanquin.
How would it be so?
In the year 1995, Awutu Bawjiase lost its chief, Nai Obo Antwi who had ruled for about thirty-two years. As custom demand, a new one was installed in his place. His name, Nai Kwaku Osardu II. In 2023, he also kicked the bucket, and as such, Nai Kwaku Osardu III was enstooled.
It would be fair to note though, that, there’s been chieftaincy dispute among the two royal factions since the passing of Nai Obo Antwi regarding the rightful heir to ascend the throne.
A situation that has pushed youth of the town to agitate in diverse ways yet directed to peace, unity and growth. Neighboring communities have made mockery of Bawjiase for fighting over a “mere” issue that would suffer them from having a substantial ruler.
The Awutu Traditional Council together with the Central Regional House of Chiefs are known to handle the matter on diverse occasion. Along the line, the regional arm ruled the case in favor of the Osardu gate but the Obo end would appeal. Eventually, the case saw its way to the National House of Chiefs which also ruled in favor of Osardu gate in May 2024.
