A private legal practitioner Kofi Bentil, has stated the grounds upon which a person who is being arrested can resist.
He states that it is required by law that persons effecting an arrest identify their status on request by the target and their mission and also mention the charges for which they are arresting a person.

If unidentified persons take a person without doing these, it is an abduction and unlawful and the person being arrested can lawfully resist, he said.
“The person arrested has no obligation to speak and so can remain silent throughout for 48 hours,” Mr Betil wrote on his Facebook page.
His comment follows the standoff that the National Intelligence Bureau had with the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev Ntim Fordjour, in an attempt to effect his arrest.
According to Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the standoff erupted because Rev Fordjour refused to cooperate.
“NIB officials are currently at Ntim Fordjour’s residence. They havean arrest warrant. He is refusing to cooperate. They have given him time to cooperate, failing which they will act,” he said.
