The Chief Imam of Bole, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, has officially banned extravagant weddings in the Bole Traditional Area, citing concerns over rising costs and deviations from Islamic traditions.
In a statement issued on March 5, 2025, the Chief Imam explained that the decision followed consultations with Islamic clergy and was aimed at curbing excessive spending that makes it difficult for many young people to get married.

The directive prohibits several modern wedding trends that do not conform to Islamic principles, including:
The Chief Imam emphasized that these practices have led to inflated wedding costs, making marriage financially burdensome for young people in the community.
The statement, which was copied to key stakeholders, including the Bolewura (Paramount Chief of Bole), the police, National Investigation Bureau (NIB), and local media houses, urged full cooperation in enforcing the ban.
“I am counting on your usual cooperation to help in the full operationalization of this ban,” the Bole Chief Imam stated.
The directive is expected to spark discussions within the Muslim community and beyond.
