The communities to be affected include Agyempoma, Opong Valley, Abosombuhu, Akaase, Nkubem, Sodademu, etc. The farms also extend its coverage to three (3) districts, such as Twifo Praso, Dunkwa District, as well as Huni Valley District.
At a durbar of chiefs and cocoa farmers organised at Agyempoma revealed that the lands have been leased to an investor (Arukah Global Ltd) for rubber cultivation.
In an interview with theย Head of Cocoa Protection Desk of COCOBOD, Prof Michael Kwateng who confirmed that his outfit has received the petition from the farmers.
And hence, the need to engage them. He asked the farmers to calm down and assured them of COCOBOD’s support to intervene the situation. He explained the need to secure the 1,446.18 Ha of cocoa farms.
In an interview with Nananom, the farmers and the Assemblymen from the area, indicated that COCOBOD is their last hope. They appealed to COCOBOD to protect their farms, which serve as the only source of their livelihood.
