Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Monday, November 25, commissioned Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the Kpone Affordable Housing Project, which includes 1,070 housing units.
During the same ceremony, he also cut the sod for Phase 4, set to add 834 additional housing units, bringing the total to 1,904 units.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to improving Ghana’s housing system, especially to meet the rising demand for affordable homes for low to middle-income earners.
Over the past seven years, the government has implemented transformative initiatives, including the establishment of the Homeownership Fund in 2018, which partners with local banks to offer cedi-denominated mortgages at lower interest rates.
To date, the fund has supported the completion of 405 housing units, with 139 units currently under construction, expected to be completed by February 2025.
In addition, the government has expanded the public sector housing program through strategic private sector partnerships, which will deliver 609 housing units for public sector workers.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the government’s support for security services, noting that 1,000 housing units have been provided for the Ghana Police Service in Tema, Kwabenya, and Tesano.
Furthermore, the Rent Assistance Scheme, launched in 2023, has assisted 2,400 individuals with rent advances, achieving a 100% recovery rate.
“My objective is to build on this progress, to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of income level, has the opportunity to live in dignity and security,” Dr. Bawumia wrote on Facebook after the ceremony.
