Cantona was arrested on suspicion of purchasing a stolen phone and was detained at the Ejura Police Station. He was later taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family and friends have accused the police of brutally beating him, alleging that the injuries sustained in custody led to his demise.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the MP urged a thorough investigation, emphasizing the need for transparency to restore public trust. Speaking to JoyNews, he stated, “An autopsy will clarify whether this young man died of natural causes or as a result of misconduct. The people of Ejura deserve answers.”

The deceased’s family has echoed the MP’s sentiments, demanding clarity on the events that led to his death. “We want to know what happened to our son—whether he was beaten to death or died from natural causes. We deserve to know the truth,” said a relative.
