Wassa Amenfi West, 16th November 2024 — Kofi Asante, the 2020 NPP parliamentary candidate for Wassa Amenfi West, has announced his defection to the opposition NDC, accusing his former party of failing to deliver on development promises. Addressing NDC supporters at Nkwanta Kesse, Asante criticized the NPP’s track record in the region, calling their promises “fake and lies.”
Asante recounted that during the 2020 election campaign, President Nana Akufo-Addo promised to address the area’s infrastructure issues, including road construction. He said that while contractors were initially brought to the site, the projects were abandoned after the elections, leading him to lose faith in the NPP’s commitment to development.
Following his electoral loss in 2020, Asante conducted a follow-up on the promised projects and found that the three constituencies in his area had been removed from the priority list. He urged voters to reconsider their support for the NPP, citing a lack of progress compared to government claims of nationwide infrastructure achievements.
“While the NPP boasts of thousands of kilometers of completed roads, our region has been sidelined,” he stated, contrasting this with the NDC’s pledge to revive abandoned projects and invest in local development. Asante praised former President Jerry John Rawlings’ administration for being responsive to community needs and expressed a desire to work with incumbent MP Eric Afful to bring much-needed progress to the area.
