President of Kidney Patients Association, Baffour Kojo Ahenkora has said as good news, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s announcement that effective December 1, dialysis services for kidney patients will be entirely free.
Mr. Ahenkora in a telephone interview with MBN NEWS360 recalled how a number of patients continue to struggle to raise money to seek required medical care for kidney infections. As president for the association, he had interest in monitoring the piloting. He said making it free entirely will take off some of the burden from kidney patients and their relatives.
The banker who had to quit his job all because of his kidney conditions said it’s not easy to meet the financial obligations that’ll aid one to cater for themselves once they are infected.
The NPP presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in December made this public during a campaign tour. He cites a successful six months piloting of free kidney dialysis with which children below age eighteen and older people became the beneficiary.
For the free status to have its way, the program shall be captured under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
