The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has launched a campaign to combat sexual and gender-based violence.
This year’s 16-day initiative is being observed under the theme, “Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Ghana” n line with the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The campaign began with a large walk that took participants from Movenpick Hotel, through Accra City Hotel, Adabraka, and its surrounding areas concluding at Neoplan Station, Circle.
At the event, Domestic Violence Secretariat, an agency under the ministry in a display explained the purpose of the program and its commitment to addressing gender-based violence in the country.
Mallonin Asibi, Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, emphasized that the campaign aims to raise awareness and educate the public on the urgent need to end violence against women, children, and other marginalized groups.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of women and children, stating that any act of violence will be met with justice.

Additionally, Mrs. Newman introduced a toll-free hotline (0800111222) for reporting abuse. She urged all Ghanaians to use the line to report cases of gender-based violence, stressing the importance of collective action to reduce and eventually eliminate such violence in the country.
