Ghana’s Electoral Commission Ranks Among Africa’s Best – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has firmly dismissed claims of eroding public trust in its operations as the country approaches the December 7 general elections. The response follows concerns raised in an Afrobarometer report by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), indicating growing scepticism among Ghanaians about the Commission’s impartiality.

The report highlighted doubts over the EC’s independence and its ability to conduct unbiased elections. In response, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, emphasized that such concerns are unfounded. He reassured the public of the Commission’s unwavering commitment to conducting credible and transparent elections.

Dr. Asare pointed to a series of measures the EC has implemented to bolster the integrity of the electoral process, including the use of advanced biometric technology, comprehensive training for polling staff, and enhanced oversight at polling stations. These efforts, he argued, underscore the EC’s dedication to electoral transparency and accountability.

“Ghana stands out in Africa for the quality of its elections,” Dr. Asare stated, adding, “Regarding concerns like forensic audits, we have been open and transparent. Our nationally televised meetings demonstrated that the EC has nothing to hide.”
