The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on Ghanaians to assist the police in identifying individuals who may attempt to disrupt peace during the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking to members of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Dampare emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining law and order. He highlighted the role of public vigilance in safeguarding the nation’s stability, urging citizens to cooperate with the police.
“We may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think that they can make an attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those people, you may be in the community, you may hear of them, you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so that we will give them a place that has been designated for them,” he stated.
Dr. Dampare reassured the public that the police are prepared to act proactively to maintain peace:

“As we speak, the police cells have vacancies, the prisons have vacancies. So proactively, we move them out of our community and keep them where they want to be kept so that we continue to live our lives to the fullest during the rest of the election period and beyond.”
The IGP’s appeal reflects the police service’s commitment to a peaceful electoral process and underscores the need for public cooperation to address potential threats. By working together, the police and the community can ensure the elections proceed smoothly and without incident.
