The other MPs were Kennedy Agyapong, Henry Quartey the then MPs for Assin Central, and Ayawaso Central lawmakers respectively.

But during proceedings, National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Asawase contested the Speaker’s ruling and said if the decision is allowed to stand, it will set a dangerous precedence which can be used by a “dictator speaker” in future to hurt lawmakers.

“If we allow this to stand it will become a precedent, tomorrow it may hurt all of us,” he said.

It is recalled that Former Kumbungu Member of Parliament, Ras Mubarak, petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to discipline these lawmakers for absenting themselves from Parliament without permission.

In his petition, he said “It has come to my notice through parliament’s Hansard, and newspaper and radio reports that some four Members of Parliament, namely Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome-Kwabenya; Hon. Henry Quartey, MP for Ayawaso Central; Hon. Ebenezer Kojo Kum, MP for Ahanta West; and Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central have all absented themselves from Parliament for more

than fifteen sittings of a meeting of Parliament without the permission of Mr. Speaker in writing.

“In view of this reported breach of the constitutional provision, I respectfully petition your high office to direct for their conduct to be referred to the Privileges Committee for consideration and necessary action.”

Sharing her ordeal on Joy News on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Adwoa Safo said “I have a role play as a mother, I lost my baby, I didn’t get what I was expecting at the term of my pregnancy, it didn’t end there. In the time of my grief my older son fell ill in the US I had to be there and I made sure, I notified those who ought to know.

“The way they made the picture look as if I was there and doing nothing. I was there making sure what ought to be said and communicated to all those that matter I did. They knew the challenges I was facing and I expected others to feel my pain. , I expected fathers to feel my pain. My son was on the verge of death I had to choose, as a mother to take care of my son or take up my position as an MP and a Minister any mother watching me today should put herself in my choices, what choice would you make?

“If you are not a witch you are going to choose that of your child.”

Asked whether she would contest again as a lawmaker in the constituency, she said “What I will say is considering the issues I have been through, considering how I have been treated in the constituency despite my devotion, sacrifices, despite my hard work I don’t think so.

“I won’t. It will take my father to change my mind, I won’t. I have done 12 years and I have left a good legacy in the constituency, I will not contest Dome Kwabenya, I am moving forward, and I am looking at bigger things.

“I am looking at speakership, yes, I am looking at higher challenging opportunities.”
