Neighbour issues late-night sex ‘ban’ in note sparking furious debate

A woman was left utterly gobsmacked when her neighbour effectively placed a curfew on her bedroom antics, deeming any passion past 10pm to be “rude and inappropriate”.

Despite residing in a flat where the walls are paper-thin, she’s always gone the extra mile to be mindful of those living next door. She’s toned down her tunes, but it seems her evening rendezvous captured a bit too much attention from one particularly peeved neighbour, resulting in the neighbour penning a disgruntled note.

The frustrated resident took her story to Reddit, posting the complaint she found with no frills added, simply captioned: “Found in an apartment hallway.”

The neighbour didn’t mince words in their note, kicking off with a cordial “Hey! It’s your neighbour. I didn’t want to have to write this but it’s really bothering me now,” reports the Mirror US.

They laid it out straight: “I don’t have a problem with you two having sex loud but I do have a problem with the timing. Late at night is inappropriate on a school night when people are trying to study and sleep.”

Keen to show they aren’t prudes, they clarified, “I apologise if my boyfriend and I have been loud but it is never on school nights because he is long distance. And again, I really don’t care how loud you are as long as it’s not at 10pm/11pm/12am and so on.”

Explaining the crux of the issue, the aggrieved party noted, “It is keeping me from sleeping and studying before bed. So please keep it down during the week. You can scream as loud as you want on the weekends when people aren’t trying to actually get things done.”

In a bid for peaceful coexistence, they signed off saying, “Again, I apologise if I have ever caused a disturbance. If you need to talk to me, obviously you know where I live. Thanks, your neighbour.”

The cheeky letter sparked a mix of amusement and empathy among internet users, with many sharing their own tales of noisy neighbours. One person posted: “My upstairs neighbour does CrossFit workouts at midnight.”

They added a touch of understanding to their plight, saying, “I’m pretty sure he’s a medical resident so I don’t say anything and just deal with it but it’s not ideal.”

Another user couldn’t resist expressing mock outrage: “Having sex at 10 on a school night? ! Absolutely scandalous!”.

A third shared their laughter and experience: “Omg I laughed so hard at this! As a downstairs neighbour in San Diego since July 2022 who has had four very different long term tenant upstairs neighbours and a series of Airbnbers it’s a whole journey of furniture movers, stompers, and playing fetch with the dog inside with assorted toys including a honking chicken dog toy!”.

Yet another chimed in with a call for consideration: “This is a very legitimate complaint, and the neighbour should try to be quieter at night? It would be the same if they were playing loud music.”

And one last user questioned the assumption that weekends are idle times: “As someone who works on schoolwork at home on weekends, what? I’ve never heard someone call the weekend a time where nobody is trying to get anything done.”
