The successful Canadian entrepreneur and investor works hard to play even harder

Kevin O’Leary has explored various business sectors, appeared on popular TV shows, and founded multiple brands since 1954 and throughout his extensive and successful career.

The very successful man began his rise to celebrity status in 2006, when he took a place on a panel of venture capitalists that passed judgment on hopeful entrepreneurs for the CBC reality show Dragons’ Den.

Kevin O’Leary was recently seen enjoying life on a multimillion dollar yacht in Miami going down the Miami river. A couple of people, including some women, are seeing on the boat. It is not clear, though, if the yacht belongs to him or is either a friend’s or a rental.

According to a report by E! News, despite having quite a huge amount of money, Kevin O’Leary has stated that he would steer clear of yachts. In the businessman’s own wise words and piece of advice, “You can see the money burning off them”.

There was a yacht incident where the businessman’s wife, Linda O’Leary, was involved. The woman crashed into a parked boat of his neighbors’, killing two people. The matter was taken to court and O’Leary had to testify. In the end, she was deemed not guilty of driving the boat irresponsibly and the case was dismissed.

In the early 1980’s, Kevin O’Leary and two of his partners formed Special Event Television, a company that produced sports programming. As a producer, he worked for the Canadian hockey announcer Don Cherry.

In 1983, in Toronto, O’Leary cofounded a company called SoftKey Software Products, Inc. SoftKey acquired many producers of educational software, and during the early 1990s it was reputed to be one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies.

After reaching an agreement in 1995 to buy the California-based Learning Company, SoftKey assumed the Learning Company name. The Learning Company was sold to the American toy maker Mattel in 1999 for more than $3 billion.
