The USMNT reached this stage of the tournament with a 5-2 aggregate victory over Jamaica in the quarter-finals, held in November.
Although the Stars and Stripes team has already won the title three times, if they do so this year, it would be the first under Pochettino’s management.
The MLS website notes that the Argentine coach took over the team’s bench in September last year, less than two years before the United States co-hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Panama will try to eliminate the defending champions, as the Central Americans have become an uncomfortable opponent for the USMNT.
It should be remembered that Panama defeated the United States in the semifinals of the 2023 Gold Cup and in the 2024 Copa America, the latter result being the one that led to the eventual separation of Gregg Berhalter, who was then in charge of the team
However, the North Americans got their revenge by beating the Panamanians 2-0 in Pochettino’s debut.
Whichever team reaches the final will face the winner of the match between Canada and Mexico, in a final to be played next Sunday.
The match will take place on Thursday, March 20 at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT
