“It is nice seeing that President Mahama has taken the advice of Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and has brought our various security agencies under a Ministry.

“I would have preferred a different person to handle the National Security Ministry to bring the required focus. Nevertheless, it’s a good start,” he wrote on Facebook.

President Mahama’s decision, made in accordance with Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030), was formally communicated to Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin during proceedings on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Mubarak Muntaka is expected to oversee national security operations alongside his duties as Interior Minister.

The announcement comes as the government intensifies efforts to address emerging security challenges and ensure public safety.

In the letter, President Mahama stated, “I convey to the House that I have assigned ministerial responsibility for national security to the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Mohammed-Muntaka Mubarak.”

The President further clarified that the Interior Minister will now oversee matters relating to national security in addition to his existing responsibilities.

This dual role is expected to ensure seamless coordination between the Interior Ministry and national security agencies, fostering a more integrated approach to addressing security challenges.
