Mahama Outlines Plans for Governance and Education Reforms

Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to organize two pivotal national conferences aimed at addressing pressing challenges in Ghana’s governance and education sectors.

Speaking at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba on Thursday, January 9, Mr. Mahama outlined his administration’s commitment to fostering justice, inclusivity, and educational excellence.

Governance Reforms: Constitutional Review Validation Conference

Mr. Mahama revealed plans to establish a committee to prepare for a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference. This initiative aims to reignite discussions on the stalled constitutional review process, build consensus on proposed amendments, and promote judicial independence.

“To this end, the new NDC administration is resolutely committed to strengthening our justice system. Justice and peace are the bedrock of our national aspirations,” he stated.

The conference will ensure inclusivity and align the proposed amendments with the collective aspirations of Ghanaians, marking a significant step toward advancing judicial and governance reforms.

Education Reforms: National Education Review Conference

On education, Mr. Mahama announced a National Education Review Conference designed to evaluate Ghana’s education system from kindergarten to tertiary levels, including technical and vocational education.

“This conference will review our educational system, right from kindergarten through basic, secondary, tertiary, and technical education, to identify what the hindrances to quality education are,” he emphasized.

The initiative seeks to address barriers to quality education and generate actionable reforms to align education outcomes with the country’s developmental needs.
