President John Dramani Mahama has said that peace is not merely the absence of war but is built on trust.
He emphasised that peace and security play an important role in Ghana’s development, urging the National Peace Council’s Governing Board to proactively identify and address conflicts to prevent escalation.

President Mahama made this call during the inauguration of a 13-member Board at the Jubilee House in Accra, with Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu as Chairman. The rest of the members are Rt. Rev. Dr. Hillard K.D. Dogbe, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, Bishop Dr. Victor Osei, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Sheikh Salman Mohammed Alhassan, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III, Madam Linda Sianorkie Teye, Dr. Abubakar Umar Alhassan, Madam Susan Aryeetey, Madam Georgette Dede Francois, Amb. Nana Effah Apenteng and Dr. George Amoh.
He commended the National Peace Council for their tireless efforts in promoting peace in the country and charged the new Board to discharge their duties effectively.
The Minister for the Interior, Hon Muntaka Mohammed- Mubarak, expressed gratitude to the President for constituting the Board and assured that the Ministry would continue to work diligently to resolve conflicts and maintain peace in the country.
The National Peace Council plays a vital role in promoting peace and security in Ghana.
“With President Mahama’s guidance, the Council is poised to make significant strides in conflict prevention and resolution, contributing to the country’s overall development and stability,” a statement issued by the Inteior Ministry on Wednesday May 7 said.
