Rapper Medikal is facing allegations of copyright infringement for unauthorized sampling of the song “Akwaaba” by the musical group Alabaster Box.
According to a letter from Sustineri Attorneys, representing Alabaster Box, Medikal’s song “Welcome to Africa” allegedly samples “Akwaaba” without permission.

The law firm asserts that Alabaster Box owns the copyright to “Akwaaba” and has exclusively promoted and performed the song for over two decades.
Sustineri Attorneys’ letter details that the alleged unauthorized sampling occurs within the first 10 seconds of Medikal’s song.
The lawyers have formally notified Medikal and demanded the removal of the infringing song from all platforms, cessation of performances, and an account of all revenue generated.
The letter also indicates that legal action may be pursued if these demands are not met.
