NDC Details Election Preparations and Innovations 2024

Accra, Ghana – December 11, 2023: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled the extensive preparations that underpinned its performance in the just-ended December 7 elections. The party trained 153,000 individuals as part of its electoral operations, with 87,000 ultimately selected to serve as polling agents.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, highlighted the depth of the training program and the party’s innovative approach to election management.

“I personally trained all 47 constituency trainers in the Ashanti Region,” Dr. Omane Boamah revealed. “Other members traveled across the country to train others. By the time the national trainers completed the first phase, we had embedded trainers available to address questions and provide additional guidance.”

The rigorous training process included exams with set pass marks, ensuring participants met stringent standards. However, uneven distribution of polling agents remained a challenge. “Some polling stations had as many as four agents, while others had none,” he acknowledged, despite the deployment of 87,000 agents being sufficient on average.

Technological Innovations Drive Success

Dr. Omane Boamah credited the party’s technological advancements for its efficiency in election monitoring. He acknowledged the contributions of developers Yayra Koku and Atta Boateng, who designed a system that effectively oversaw the electoral process.

“By 7 pm on election day, we knew we had won based on our analytics,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated. “We had collated results from 20,000 polling stations and calculated the variance between Mahama’s and Bawumia’s performances. The data showed a strong trend in our favor.”

The party also equipped 300 key officials, including lawyers, with tablets to facilitate seamless coordination. Legal teams were deployed at the constituency level to address potential issues swiftly.

Collective Efforts Drive Success

Dr. Omane Boamah attributed the success of the NDC’s election strategy to the collaboration among constituency and regional executives, polling agents, and ground teams. “The readiness and dedication of our teams ensured the effective execution of plans on election day,” he emphasized.
