The new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reactivated all regional police command public affairs units to reinforce their mandate.
He announced this at a workshop for Police Public Relations Officers on Thursday, March 20.

COP Yohuno indicated that over the years the media has been a key stakeholder in crime-fighting efforts therefore it is important to improve on the engagements between the Police and the Inky fraternity.
He said “The current Police administration under my leadership will reactivate and invite all regional Police Public Affairs offices to re-interact and meet the ever-evolving demands of our society and media partners.
“Over the years the media has been a key stakeholder in crime-fighting efforts and has influenced public perception of our work in numerous ways. therefore it is imperative that our engagements with the media be intentional, professional and instructive and strictly align with police directives.”
He further urged them to “Ensure that your interaction with the media adhere to the highest standards of credibility, integrity and impartiality, ensure consistency in our messaging across all regions and units.”
Prior to this announcement, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno reconstituted the Police management board on Tuesday, March 19.
A statement issued by the Police said that this is to ensure effective management and operation control of the Ghana Police Service.
The Board is constituted as follows:
President John Dramani Mahama last week replaced George Akuffo Dampare with COP Christain Tetteh Yohuno as the IGP.
This was contained in a media advisory issued by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on March 13.
“President John Dramani Mahama has in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police. He replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu wrote.
COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service.
