President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to initiate an investigation into the controversial National Cathedral project, as part of his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent governance.

Speaking at a National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Sunday, January 12, 2025, President Mahama declared: “We will soon activate an investigation into the National Cathedral project.”
He hinted at a potential relocation of the project site and a reconsideration of its overall cost to make it more achievable and financially sustainable. “I believe that we can reach a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project, and together we can raise the funding for it. Such a reconsideration might even include changing the current site chosen for the project,” the president stated, leaving room for consultations with stakeholders.
President Mahama also emphasized his administration’s unwavering stance on combating corruption and ensuring justice. “We will fight corruption relentlessly,” he affirmed, pledging to strengthen systems to ensure accountability in public service.
Reflecting on his recent electoral victory, the president expressed gratitude for the support of the clergy and the Ghanaian people, attributing his win to divine providence. “This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our sight,” he remarked, assuring citizens of his resolve to govern inclusively.

Additionally, President Mahama outlined his administration’s policy priorities, including addressing unemployment, expanding healthcare access, and completing unfinished health facilities. He promised to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy and operationalize all health facilities, reaffirming his commitment to improving the well-being of all Ghanaians.
The investigation into the National Cathedral project is expected to shed light on past controversies and chart a new course for its realization, fostering unity and transparency in the process.
