Convener of the Fix the Country Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor who made the call asked President Mahama to also cancel all 2000 mining licenses given out by the Akufo-Addo administration.

His comments come at a time when data from the Ghana Mining Repository showed that over a hundred mining-related licenses were issued in the last week of former President Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Out of the 103 licenses issued in 2025, 102 were granted between January 1 and January 6, before the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama.

This means only one license has been issued under the current government.

The licenses include 21 small-scale mining licenses, prospecting licenses, and mining support services licenses. This brings the total number of active licenses across the country to 2,127.

In a Facebook post, Barker-Vormawor said “The disaster of Nana Addo’s Regine, the worst this country has ever seen, manages to issue over 2000 mining licenses to cronies in 4 years. Including 103 after they lose election. Creating an ecological clusterfuck for this Generation and the next. And we sit down and watch?

“Just saying oh wow, and moving on, it’s not the appropriate response of a people at risk of having to import drinking water soon. The President must revoke all those licences and put a moratorium on new licenses. If we can burn excavators we can revoke licenses.
