In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, emphasised Ghana’s commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and prevention of human suffering through illicit arms.

He noted that Ghana is proud to be among the early signatories of the ATT and has been working to domesticate its provisions.

Terlabi urged participants to take full advantage of the sessions, engage deeply, and challenge assumptions. He also emphasized the importance of follow-through, noting that the true measure of the initiative will be the quality of action that follows the workshop.

The Head of Arms Trade Treaty Secretariat, Ms. Carina Solmirano, urged participants to become representatives of ATT in their various countries.

She added that the workshop forms part of a broader effort to strengthen regional peace and cooperation and promote responsible arms control.

The workshop aims to train trainers who will multiply the impact of the initiative across borders. The agenda includes discussions on the Treaty’s foundational objectives, practical implementation measures, and soft skills such as communication and active listening.
