Support this ‘sensible’ budget to revive the economy – Deputy Finance Minister tells MPs

Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Nyarko has urged members of Parliament to support the approval of the 2025 Budget which he says will reset the economy.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 during the debate on the 2025 Budget, the Deputy Finance Minister asserted that the measures outlined in the 2025 budget are interventions the previous administration could not provide.

He appealed to MPs particularly the Minority members to support what he described as a “sensible budget” to revive the economy.

“You should be thankful to President Mahama for continuing some of these interventions. Mr. Speaker, I want to appeal to our friends on that side that I understand you are in opposition and it is your job to offer criticism but you see don’t just be fighting criticism where there is none.

“Support a worthy cause, support President John Mahama, support Ato Forson, support us to implement this sensible budget because this is what is going to take us out of the mess that you left us,” he said.

Parliament on Tuesday, March 18 commenced debate on the 2025 budget statement that was delivered to the house by the finance minister on March 11.

While the minority MPs say the budget lacks credibility as it does not seem to address job creation and economic growth, the majority MPs argued that it is a people-centered budget.
