Trotro driver assaults firefighter, suffering him a broken ankle

The driver of a commercial car (trotro) with registration number GR 4985-17, has attacked a personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service suffering him a broken ankle.

The unfortunate incident occurred Thursday evening at T-Junction near the La International Trade Fair Centre in Accra. The serviceman, ADO II Aziz Annor of the Ministries Fire Station was in the company of a team of firefighters who attended to replenish fire tenders to fight off a fire disaster at Zongo Lane inside the Central Business District of the capital city.

It would be recorded that a number of shops within the area (Zongo Lane) went down on fire over the previous weekend. Some three days into the incident, the blazing fire was still on hence the continuous presence of firefighters to ensure total control.

The need therefore, for water supply which compelled the emergency response officials to tap an available hydrant in the La community right opposite La Palm Beach Hotel. While there, the firefighters sort to have a free flow of traffic for obvious reasons.

In line with the desire, Mr. Annor tried to compel motorists to mind fair means of driving to avoid conjunction since the traffic lights at T-Junction were not working.

According to an eyewitness, Martin Torbgor, he saw the firefighter trying to control traffic but the trotro driver together with his mate refused to exercise patience and started raining insults.

Without provocation, all he saw was that the driver had jumped out of his car, gave the firefighter a boot from the bark. He immediately fell following the broken ankle.

The victim was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for medical attention while the accused driver was handed over to the police.
