Victims recount lost in Agbobloshie fire disaster

Victims of the fire outbreak that destroyed belongings at Old Fadama(Agbogbloshie) in Accra continue to recount their loses. While some cry over where to lay their heads, others are concerned about how to exercise their franchise on Election Day since they got their voter IDs burning in the fire.

The outbreak occurred within the late hours of Sunday, 24th November, 2024.

People within the vicinity attempted to dose the fire but to no avail. It took the arrival of firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS) to bring the blaze under control.

Unlike the known attack on firefighters for “late arrival” in such cases a couple times, personnel of the emergency service have been praised for prompt response to save a situation this time around.

The Agbogbloshie enclave can be said to be among areas with high rate of fire disaster in the country. In extension, the entire Central Business District of Accra can’t be ruled out of this unfortunate rating.
The Pedestrian Shopping Mall, Mallam Atta Market, Dome Market, Art Centre, all in Accra, etc., happen to be part of this.

On regional basis, the Ashanti, Central, Bono, Northern and Western may come into the bracket.
